Kitchen, Bathroom, Laundry and Renovations (KBLR)
Course Overview:
The Kitchen, Bathroom, Laundry and Renovations (KBLR) licence is essential for tradespeople involved in the installation, refurbishment, restoration, and on-site repairs of kitchens, bathrooms, and laundries. The licence is required by NSW Fair Trading for residential renovation work valued at more than $5000, including both materials and labor.
Scope of Work:
The KBLR licence covers:
- Kitchen, bathroom, and laundry installation and renovation
- Refurbishment or restoration of these areas
- On-site repairs of kitchen, bathroom, and laundry facilities
This licence does not cover any work affecting load-bearing parts of the building, such as foundations, walls, or beams.
Eligibility:
To qualify for the KBLR licence, applicants must:
- Hold a contractor licence or supervisor certificate in a related trade, such as:
- Carpentry
- Joinery
- Plumbing
- Wall and floor tiling
- Have relevant industry experience (generally at least 3 years) in kitchen, bathroom, and laundry renovations.
Units of Competency:
To obtain this licence, individuals need to complete specific units of competency, which may vary slightly depending on the training provider. Common units include:
- CPCCBC4001: Apply building codes and standards to construction processes
- CPCCBC4002: Manage work health and safety in the construction workplace
- CPCCBC4003: Select, prepare, and administer a construction contract
- CPCCBC4004: Identify and produce estimated costs for construction projects
- CPCCBC4005: Produce labor and material schedules for ordering
- CPCCBC4006: Select and procure materials for construction projects
- CPCCBC4007: Plan building and construction work
- CPCCBC4008: Supervise site communication and administration
- CPCCBC4009: Apply legal requirements to building projects
For individuals with extensive experience, the Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) pathway is available to obtain the qualification more quickly based on on-the-job experience.
Career Outcomes:
Graduates of this course are qualified to become licensed renovators for kitchens, bathrooms, and laundries, enabling them to manage renovation projects and hire subcontractors as necessary.
